Kiwifruit (Actinidia spp.) is a globally significant fruit crop with substantial economic value. Prior to 2010, limited attention was given to viruses affecting kiwifruit. However, since then, over 20 viruses infecting this crop have been identified. These viruses can cause severe symptoms, including leaf yellowing, mosaic patterns, necrosis, and ringspots, which significantly affect yield and fruit quality. Many of these viruses have a widespread distribution. Actinidia yellowing ringspots virus (AYRSpV), Pelargonium zonate spot virus (PZSV), and Cherry leafroll virus (CLRV) infections are highly pathogenic to kiwifruit based on the symptoms they cause. For future studies, viruses such as Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), Actinidia cholorotic ringspots-associated virus (AcCRaV), Tomato necrotic spot associated virus (TNSaV), Tomato necrotic spot tospovirus (TNSV), and Actinidia virus 1 (AcV-1), which are associated with mosaic symptoms, ring spots, and chlorosis, should also be considered. This review highlights recent advancements in understanding the identification, genomic variability, distribution, transmission, detection, prevalence, and management of kiwifruit viruses. It also includes recommendations for developing future programs to control kiwi viruses. The use of virus-free propagation materials remains a widely accepted and cost-efficient approach for managing kiwifruit viruses.
