Abstract

In this study, leaf gas exchange parameters [stomatal conductance (gs), net assimilation rate (Anet), transpiration rate (TO), and water use efficiency [instantaneous water use efficiency (ASKV= Anet/E), intrinsic water use efficiency (İSKV= Anet/gs)], which are physiological indicators, of 15 different hazelnut varieties grafted onto Turkish hazelnut (Corylus colurna L.) were evaluated. Hazelnut varieties obtained from Düzce, Trabzon, Samsun, and Kastamonu as research material were grafted onto Turkish hazelnut rootstocks in 2020, and measurements of leaf gas exchange parameters of these hazelnut varieties were carried out in August 2024 with five replications. According to the study results, the highest photosynthetic performance in gs, Anet, and TO values was observed in the Turkish hazelnut, Allah Verdi, and Okay varieties. In contrast, the lowest values were obtained in Çakıldak, Palaz, and Kara fındık varieties. Regarding ASKV and İSKV, Sivri, Giresun Yabanisi, Palaz, and Yomralı varieties stood out. As a result, it shows that hazelnut varieties grafted onto Turkish hazelnuts have significant variations in terms of photosynthetic performance. While grafting Turkish hazelnut onto itself shows the best photosynthetic performance, it is thought that Allah Verdi and Okay varieties may have better future developments with their performance compared to other varieties. These two hazelnut varieties, which are both productive and have high commercial value, may be preferred more in hazelnut orchard studies to be established in areas without irrigation problems in the future. However, considering that the drought effect is increasing, it would be more appropriate to conduct scientific research, including drought resistance tests for these varieties, and to establish hazelnut orchards considering this data.
