The effects of world population growth on agricultural production and the negative effects of plant diseases on this production are becoming increasingly important today. Every year, 20-40% of global crop losses occur due to diseases. Rapid and accurate diagnosis of disease agents is necessary to increase yield and quality in agricultural production. In particular, oomycetes of the genus Pythium cause significant damage to plants’ roots and different tissues, causing economic losses. While morphological diagnosis methods are time-consuming and challenging for researchers, molecular techniques (eg. Real-time PCR, LAMP) provide partially more effective solutions by offering sensitivity and specificity. As a result, reducing the effects of Pythium species, which cause serious problems for agricultural production, will be possible with the development of early diagnosis and control methods. For this purpose, the integrated use of both molecular and immunological methods will help develop more effective methods in the control of plant diseases.
