Effect of Dietary Niacin Supplementation on Performance, Egg Quality and Hatchability Parameters in Breeder Quails

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effects of niacin supplemented diets on production performance, egg quality and hatchability parameters in breeder quails. In the study, 80 female and 40 male quails (total 120) at 12 weeks of age were fed diets supplemented with 0, 20, 40 and 80 mg/kg niacin for ten weeks. Each treatment group consisted of 5 replicates with 6 quails (2 males, 4 females) each. Niacin supplementation did not affect the average body weight values of female quails, egg production, feed intake, egg quality parameters and hatchability parameters. The body weights and body weight changes of male quails decreased with niacin supplementation, and this decrease was statistically significant between 80 mg/kg niacin group and 0 and 20 mg/kg groups. With the addition of niacin to the diet, egg weight and egg mass increased significantly compared to the group without any supplement, on the contrary, the feed conversion ratio decreased significantly. According to the results obtained from this study, niacin addition to the quail breeder diets was effective in improving performance and feed utilization without affecting egg quality and hatchability parameters, and niacin addition at the level of 20 mg/kg was found to be sufficient.
