Abstract

The study aims to determine the effects of bacteria isolated from soils in different regions on the growth and nutrient uptake of maize plants grown in cadmium (Cd)-contaminated soils. The study, conducted under greenhouse conditions, utilized pots with a capacity of 3 kg, and the pot experiment was carried out with three replications according to the randomized plot design. In the study, bacteria isolated from the provinces of Ordu (B1), Hatay (B2), Sivas (B3), Adana (B4), Isparta (B5), and Antalya (B6) were used. Cadmium treatments were applied at 0 mg kg⁻¹ Cd and 5 mg kg⁻¹ Cd. The research results showed that bacterial applications increased the dry matter production of maize plants, with the highest dry matter production of 57.6 g pot-1 observed in the Cd0 treatment with the B2 inoculation. In the study, all bacterial inoculations increased the dry matter production of the plant compared to the control in both Cd0 and Cd5 treatments. The same applies to nitrogen (N) concentration as well. When the average values were analyzed in the study, phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn) concentrations increased in the plant with bacterial inoculation, especially in Cd-contaminated soils. This suggests that growing plants with bacterial inoculation in Cd-contaminated soils could be an important strategy.
