This study was conducted to investigate the effects of extracts from faba bean (Vicia faba L.) and common vetch (Vicia sativa L.) on the germination and growth parameters of common weed species such as perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.), and wild mustard (Sinapis arvensis L.). The experiments were carried out between July 10 and 30, 2024, in the laboratories of the Faculty of Agriculture at Sakarya University of Applied Sciences. Aqueous extracts were prepared at concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5% using above-ground parts of faba bean and common vetch plants, which were harvested, dried, and ground. The experiments were laid out in a factorial design with four replications under a Completely Randomized Plot Design. Parameters such as germination rate (%), root length (mm), shoot length (mm), fresh and dry weight (g) were evaluated. The results revealed that the extracts of faba bean and common vetch exhibited dose-dependent allelopathic effects on the weed species. Notably, the 5% concentration significantly inhibited the germination and growth parameters of the weeds. These findings suggest that aqueous extracts from faba bean and common vetch offer potential as natural compounds for weed management, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical herbicides. The data obtained are expected to contribute significantly to the promotion of natural weed control methods and the reduction of environmental impacts.
