Determination of In vitro Gas Production Parameters of Some Wheat Varieties Harvested in Different Development Periods

This study aimed to determine the nutrient and in vitro digestibility values of wheat varieties harvested at different development periods. TEKFEN, ANOPA and NKU ASYA varieties were used as wheat hay. In terms of vegetative period, the beginning, milk formation and dough formation periods of wheat varieties are discussed. In the study where in vitro gas production technique was used, gas production (GP) and methane (CH4) gas of the groups were determined. In vitro digestibility and energy values were calculated using the GP amounts obtained at the 24th hour of incubation. The number of protozoa and pH values were determined as parameters related to rumen fluid. According to the data obtained, while the amount of GP, OMD, ME, NEL, CH4, rumen pH values increase in wheat varieties depending on the progress of the harvest period, crude protein, crude ash, ether extract, crude fiber, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and protozoa decreased. The highest NDF and ADF values were determined in TEKFEN wheat variety. However, the highest digestibility was again in the TEKFEN wheat variety. Accordingly, the amount of CH4 production was seen in the TEKFEN variety. As a result, if a choice is made among the varieties, the ANOPA variety can be recommended due to its high digestibility and low CH4 production amount. Considering the vegetative periods, the milk maturity period can be recommended because digestibility is high and the amount of CH4 production is low.
