Abstract

The grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) is a legume forage plant recognized for its drought tolerance and abiotic stresses. This study was conducted under laboratory conditions to determine the response of some grass pea genotypes to salinity stress control, 50-, 100-, and 200-mM salt concentrations. Six grass pea genotypes from the Türkiye Seed Gene Bank and registered cultivars Gürbüz-2001 and GAP Mavisi were used as material. The study observed that salt stress decreased germination percentage, speed of germination, and radicle length. The findings, considering the averages, showed germination rates ranging from 38.12 to 78.8%, germination speeds ranging from 1.46 to 3.97, and radicle lengths ranging from 0.95 to 2.96 cm. The study demonstrates the sensitivity of L. sativus to salt stress and reveals significant variation among genotypes. These results indicate that some accessions, particularly accession TTGB 048958, are more tolerant to salinity than other cultivars. These results demonstrate the importance of genetic resources in selecting salt-tolerant genotypes and are thought to guide future research on salinity in grass pea.
