Abstract

The study aimed to determine the effects of irrigation water containing different salt levels on the physiological and morphological characteristics of the inchplant (Tradescantia zebrina) and Begonia (Begonia semperflorens) plants. To this end, 1 control and 2 different salt concentration (4 dS m-1 and 8 dS m-1) treatments were established. The research was conducted at the Plant Stress Monitoring and Thermography Laboratory (COSMOTLAB) of the Faculty of Agriculture, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Physiological measurements included leaf temperature and chlorophyll index, while morphological measurements included plant height and plant diameter for begonia, and leaf thickness and leaf diameter for inchplant. Irrigation applied once a week. Soil moisture was determined using pot weights. The research findings show that salt stress causes necrosis and growth loss in plants as a result of the disruption it creates in the transpiration mechanism. Therefore, it was found important to keep salinity at the control level in the growing environment to preserve the aesthetic appearance of these species.
