TURJAF is published on a monthly basis, with twelve issues released annually. Each issue is published during the first week of the corresponding month.

Peer Review Process

Back to Contents

All manuscripts submitted to TURJAF undergo a rigorous and transparent peer-review process:

Initial Review

The Editor-in-Chief conducts an initial evaluation to assess whether the manuscript fits the scope, aims, and minimum scientific standards of the journal. Manuscripts that fail to meet these criteria are returned to the authors within one week of submission, enabling authors to make prompt revisions or seek a more appropriate journal without unnecessary delay.

Peer Review

The Turkish Journal of Agriculture – Food Science and Technology (TURJAF) is committed to maintaining a rigorous, transparent, fair, and timely double-blind peer review process in accordance with international publication ethics and best editorial practices.

Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, the Editor-in-Chief conducts an initial assessment to determine whether the manuscript falls within the journal's aims and scope and meets the minimum scientific, ethical, and editorial standards. All manuscripts are also screened using plagiarism detection software before entering peer review.

Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be rejected or returned to the authors within one week of submission, allowing authors to revise their work or submit it to a more appropriate journal without unnecessary delay.

Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial assessment are assigned to an Associate Editor, who selects at least two independent expert reviewers with relevant expertise.

TURJAF operates a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process.

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

  • Scientific originality;
  • Methodological rigor;
  • Validity and reliability of the results and conclusions;
  • Ethical compliance;
  • Contribution to the fields of Agriculture and Food Sciences.

Reviewers are normally requested to submit their evaluation reports within one month to facilitate the timely publication of accepted manuscripts.

Editorial Decision:

Based on the reviewers' reports and the recommendation of the Associate Editor, the Editor-in-Chief makes the final editorial decision.

Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept Submission
  • Revisions Required
  • Resubmit for Review
  • Resubmit Elsewhere
  • Decline Submission

Authors are normally given up to six months to submit revised manuscripts. Revised manuscripts are generally returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation whenever appropriate.

Editorial Timeline and Transparency:

The duration of the peer review process may vary depending on reviewer availability, the complexity of the manuscript, the extent of revisions required, and the responsiveness of the authors. Consequently, the period between submission and acceptance may differ among manuscripts.

In some cases, manuscripts may complete the review process within a relatively short period when reviewers promptly accept invitations, submit their reports without delay, only minor revisions are required, and authors return revised manuscripts within the requested timeframe.

Regardless of the processing time, no manuscript is accepted without completing the journal's standard editorial assessment and independent double-blind peer review process. A short submission-to-acceptance period should not be interpreted as evidence that peer review has been omitted, abbreviated, or conducted below the journal's scientific, ethical, or editorial standards.

To ensure transparency, consistency, and accountability, all submissions are managed through the journal's online manuscript management system. The journal maintains complete editorial records for every manuscript, including submission dates, plagiarism screening results, editorial assessments, reviewer invitations, reviewer reports, author revisions, editorial correspondence, and final editorial decisions.

Upon request from recognized indexing services, accreditation bodies, research integrity investigations, or other authorized organizations (including DOAJ, TR DIZIN, Web of Science, and Scopus), TURJAF may provide documentation demonstrating that the editorial and peer review processes have been properly conducted. Such documentation will be provided only to authorized organizations and in accordance with applicable confidentiality, privacy, and publication ethics requirements.

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for ensuring that every editorial decision is based on independent peer review and complies with the journal's editorial policies, publication ethics, and internationally accepted publishing standards. TURJAF periodically reviews and audits its editorial and peer review procedures to ensure continuous compliance with international best practices.

Special and Supplementary Issue Policy

The Turkish Journal of Agriculture – Food Science and Technology (TURJAF) may publish Special Issues and Supplementary Issues on topics that fall within the journal's aims and scope. Such issues are published only when scientifically justified and in accordance with the journal's editorial policies, publication ethics, and international best practices.

Approval of Special and Supplementary Issues:

The publication of a Special or Supplementary Issue must be approved by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board. Each proposal is evaluated based on its scientific merit, relevance to the journal's scope, editorial feasibility, and expected contribution to the field.

The appointment of Guest Editor(s), where applicable, is subject to the approval of the Editor-in-Chief.

Editorial Oversight:

The Editor-in-Chief has overall responsibility for all Special and Supplementary Issues and retains full authority over the editorial process and final publication decisions.

Guest Editors assist in coordinating the Special Issue, promoting the call for papers, identifying suitable reviewers, and making editorial recommendations. However, Guest Editors do not have the authority to make final editorial decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts.

The final decision on every manuscript is made exclusively by the Editor-in-Chief or an editor designated by the Editor-in-Chief.

Peer Review:

All manuscripts submitted to Special and Supplementary Issues are subject to the same editorial evaluation and double-blind peer review process as manuscripts submitted to regular issues.

Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's scope.

Submission to a Special or Supplementary Issue does not provide any preferential consideration for publication.

*Conflict of Interest: *

All editors, Guest Editors, reviewers, and authors must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest.

Where a conflict of interest exists, the manuscript is assigned to an independent editor who has no conflict with the authors or Guest Editor. The Editor-in-Chief ensures that editorial decisions remain impartial and independent.

Manuscripts Submitted by Guest Editors:

If a Guest Editor submits a manuscript to a Special or Supplementary Issue that they are editing, they are completely excluded from every stage of the editorial process for that manuscript.

The manuscript is handled by an independent editor appointed by the Editor-in-Chief, who is solely responsible for selecting reviewers, managing the peer review process, and making the final editorial decision.

Conference Proceedings:

Manuscripts originating from scientific meetings, conferences, symposia, or workshops may be considered for publication in a Special or Supplementary Issue only after they have been substantially revised, prepared in accordance with the journal's Author Guidelines, and successfully completed the journal's standard editorial screening and double-blind peer review process.

Presentation at a scientific meeting does not guarantee publication.

Editorial Independence

Back to Contents

Editorial decisions are made independently of Guest Editors, conference organizers, sponsors, scientific committees, funding organizations, or any external institution.

Scientific quality, ethical standards, and the outcome of the peer review process are the sole criteria for publication.

Compliance with DOAJ and TR DIZIN Requirements:

Special and Supplementary Issues are managed in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and internationally accepted publishing standards.

In accordance with the TR DIZIN Journal Evaluation Criteria, the total number of Special and Supplementary Issues published in a calendar year shall not exceed one-third (1/3) of the journal's regular publication frequency.

Special and Supplementary Issues are published only under exceptional and scientifically justified circumstances and shall not replace, interrupt, or adversely affect the journal's regular publication schedule.

All manuscripts published in Special and Supplementary Issues are subject to the same editorial screening, ethical standards, plagiarism checks, peer review procedures, and acceptance criteria as manuscripts published in regular issues.

The journal ensures transparency, editorial independence, and consistency in the management of all Special and Supplementary Issues.

Plagiarism and Similarity Screening and Policy

Back to Contents

The Turkish Journal of Agriculture – Food Science and Technology (TURJAF) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and ethical publishing. TURJAF has developed and implements its own procedures to prevent, detect, and address plagiarism and unethical text reuse. These procedures are informed by internationally accepted best practices in scholarly publishing, particularly the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and are fully owned and administered by the Journal and its Publisher.

All submissions to TURJAF are screened using recognized similarity detection software, such as Turnitin, iThenticate, Intihal.net, or other equivalent text similarity detection systems, prior to entering the peer-review process. Manuscripts with an overall Similarity Index (SI) exceeding 19% may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected before peer review. Authors are required to reduce the similarity index below the acceptable threshold before resubmission. Manuscripts that fail to meet this requirement are rejected at the initial editorial evaluation stage.

Similarity screening aims to identify:

  • Plagiarism,
  • Self-plagiarism,
  • Redundant or duplicate publication,
  • Inappropriate or excessive text reuse.

Authors are fully responsible for ensuring that all submitted content is original and that any use of previously published material is properly cited and clearly indicated.

If plagiarism or unethical text reuse is detected after publication, TURJAF will take appropriate corrective actions in accordance with its ethical procedures, which are informed by COPE recommendations. These actions may include:

  • Immediate retraction of the published article and removal from the journal website,
  • Issuance of a correction or expression of concern where appropriate,
  • Notification of the authors’ affiliated institutions,
  • Temporary or permanent bans on future submissions to TURJAF (up to five years),
  • Any other measures necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

For transparency, TURJAF’s handling of plagiarism and similarity-related misconduct is guided by the following COPE resources:

  • COPE Core Practices:

https://publicationethics.org/core-practices

  • COPE Flowcharts for handling suspected plagiarism:

https://publicationethics.org/guidance/Flowcharts

  • COPE Guidelines and Best Practice:
