Abstract

This study is conducted to determine the effects of using broccoli floret powder as an additive in the diets of laying quails for performance and egg quality. The study was conducted with a total of 54 female quails, aged 18 weeks, in 3 treatment groups consisting of 6 replicates, and 3 quails were placed in each replicate. Treatment diets are prepared by adding broccoli powder to the basal diets at levels of 0, 5 or 10 g/kg. Quails were fed ad libitum with treatment diets for 8 weeks. In the final of study, the broccoli floret powder addition to diet did not affect the body weight, egg production, eggshell rate, eggshell thickness, yolk and albumen indexes, Haugh unit and yolk L* value of quails. Feed intake of quails decreased with the administration of broccoli powder to the diet. Egg mass decreased by 5 g/kg level of broccoli powder. The 10 g/kg broccoli powder supplement increased egg weight, yolk a* and b* values, and decreased feed conversion ratio. According to these results, the addition of broccoli powder at the level of 10 g/kg to the diets of laying quails was effective in improving performance and yolk color without affecting eggshell quality.
