Abstract

In this study, the effect of dietary fucoxanthin on the serum lipid profile and some metabolic parameters was investigated. In the study, one day old 180 male broilers were used. The experiment lasted 42 days. Chicks were assigned to 1 control group (C) and 2 trial groups (F1 and F2) of 60 animals. Groups C, F1 and F2 were fed on a basal diet supplemented with 0, 100 and 200 mg/kg of fucoxanthin, respectively. At the end of study (day 43), blood samples were collected from jugular vein of the ten animals per group, for use in biochemical analyses. It was determined that fucoxanthin administration increased triglyceride levels only in the F2 group but, it was not affect total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. Serum glucose, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium levels were similar in all groups. While total protein and albumin levels of the F2 group were similar to the C group, significantly decreased compared to the F1 group. Also, It was determined that the level of uric acid of the F2 group was significantly lower than that of the C group. As a result, it was seen that fucoxanthin had a limited effect on serum parameters.
